A minority?
Or a passing aberration……
Scott Brown wants to make Elizabeth Warren’s ancestry the main part of his campaign to keep his Senatorial seat.
………………………..Or is he really trying to impugn her integrity by degrading his own.
He points to her and says in so many words… look at her, she is white, and therefore can’t be Native American. His staff stomps the streets in satirical mocking war dances.
- Lost was the outcry from the pale faced chief of the Cherokee nation.
- Lost is the chance to educate oneself on the truth of the Native American.
Not much different from the African American, this has become a blended race. Many can’t name their tribes as many “blacks” can’t name the country on Africa they have descended from.
In my youth, I hiked trails with young friends and we bartered our “native blood” like collecting cards for the Yankees. “I have more Indian than you have”.
Neither of us could actually name a tribe we descended from. We just rattled off people in our families who had it in them.
Neither of us was schooled in the truths of our ancestry past. Truthfully the schools where we derive our education from was inept at filling us with the truth of the past.
I still remember being thoroughly pissed off in an Indian Films class when I heard that wampum was not currency, but beads to which history belts were made. The banning of wampum was not the banning of a “foreign currency” but the banning of books. The banning of knowledge. That could not be true, I thought. I remember clearly in history class being told in the books we read that it was money… That is what Manhattan was sold for … right? The equivalency of $24 dollars.
The truth is there was more to the use of wampum. It was just used by the Europeans as money and therefore the knowledge was only handed down via "White" history.
But what is true when so much is written from subjective perspective or downright malicious lies?
Yes, this DragonWoman has native blood. I still can’t with absolute certainty tell you which tribes. I have a family member who has been searching our ancestry. She has been peering deep into our Irish and Scottish heritage. Yes, I am blended. I have predominantly Irish, Scottish, and French background.
Yet every time I am faced with that question on forms “what are you” I stare at the Native American selection. If given the opportunity, I select both White (Caucasian) and Native American.
Does that mean “I have gotten away with charity”?
~snicker~ Seriously?!?!?!?!?!
Well, at work I am now sent, every year, a packet for a Minority Scholarship. Every year, I look at it and smile. I am a minority?
I will set aside who is becoming the minority…… errrr maybe for a minute. Trust me this dragon tongue can spin a yarn on that subject.
Just try and focus on the difference between what is a “minority” and what has become a myth. You may relate.
What is the definition of a Native American?
- · Is it where someone lives?
- · Is it the language they speak?
- · Is it the color of their skin?
- · Is it the “God” they worship?
- · Is it the government they look to?
Is the answer to all of these subjective?
Skin?
Truthfully when my brother tells me we are not white, I laugh in his face. We don’t live on a reservation. Is that where ALL Native American’s live? No.
Although to look at my brother and I you could see there is a slight difference in our coloring. His skin darkens faster than mine. A walk in the sun burns neither of us. We share the same mother and father and are separated by only 18 months.
Have I faced discrimination? Not because of the color of my skin. I could discuss what it is like to get a job as a fat woman.... if you really want to be bothered with it.
Language?
Natives, all, sure don’t speak the tongue of their ancestry either. Oh they may know it, but “English” has been beaten into their bloodline as much as anyone else who comes to this country. Don’t you find it laughable when certain groups proclaim we should have one official language? I do. Go back to England, they sure don’t talk like we do. Broken English.... American.
God?
I share many friends on Facebook who practice Witchcraft and I receive quite a bit of Native proverbs. I can see an intermingling of faith. There is a common love of nature.
I can definitely relate to this. I am a tree huggin liberal.
I have friends who are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Catholic, and I once was baptized and “saved” as a Baptist. All of us are Americans, and yet we all have various ways to give praise to faith. Do we all worship the same God?
I would like to think we all intermingle the same ideals in our faiths. Yet it seems as though we choose to point out the differences in a hierarchy of which is more respectable;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;believable????
As much as I respect Bill Maher, I cannot toss the baby with the bathwater. I cannot toss faith with religion. Again, I will try to stay on point, but know this DragonWoman also loves to wax on about religion, God, and faith.
Government?
Well, we know there are native nations that have not only their own educational system and beliefs, but are exempt from most of our tax system….. for the time being. I can tell you that in New York State, this issue is raised all the time. Weather to renege on the written agreement with the tribe.

The truth is the feelings towards the national government is not much different then those of some folks in the south.... or Libertarians.
They want to be left alone, to be free to rule themselves. But we know that does not work in a blended America. You are pushed to conform to the will of the majority, all the while dissected as a minority. You blend..... what defined you once is gone.
Before you go to the polls…
Take a long look in the mirror.
See the hard line forming in your face?????
Like water waves carved out the rivers of our nation, all you have built, driven from your wallets, jobs, homes, and the lands of middle class carves lines of pain in your face .
Take a second look in the mirror. Not darkened skin, but darkened spirit. It is the despair by deceit. It is the gluttony of the 1% that deceives you with lies destroying any integrity you hold dear.
Look in that mirror..................
…… It is not hard to see a ghost of Native American in you.
The dying middle class.
