The Child Pound??? Nebraska Dad Who Abandoned Nine Children is Expecting Twins

advertisement

37-year-old Gary Staton abandoned his nine children in September 2008, relinquishing them to the custody of his home state of Nebraska -- protected as a parent by the state's Safe Haven law. Now Staton, is expecting twins with his new girlfriend, Gail.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

sympathy for his plight? what plight? this guy ditched his nine children off on the state. my sympathy is for the nine kids that share this waste of carbon's dna. i'm not saying i don't value human life, but this guy should not still be walking the earth, not to mention having more kids. did his new girlfriend know of his 'parenting' skills? are they planning on dropping off the twins once they're born?

He became a widower quite suddenly. I, too, sympathize with the 9, but I certainly prefer him turning them over to the state rather than committing homicide, as several other fathers have done during this current recession.

i'm not going to commend someone for not killing their nine children. that's too bad about his wife, but he didn't die. he fathered nine children and walked away. it seems to me that the wrong parent of those nine children died.

Both these losers, he and the girlfriend are in serious need of some brain cells. There should be a law that anyone who can't support a child shouldn't be able to have them. A vasectomy for him and tubes tied for the mother. This stuff needs to stop, it costs too much and the children suffer.

Great! Now, desperate-stupid and ignorant-loser are sleeping together "and" procreating! Just what America needs right now! What's next. Maybe we need laws on exactly "how many" kids you can have in one lifetime *unless* you can take care of them, birth them, feed them, etc. I like my freedom too and the right to choose, etc., but c'mon people -- some people are taking their right to bear children to the extreme!

Jonna, I was just thinking the same thing. I really dislike opening the door for governmental intrusion, but this is out of control. Some people need to be snipped and clipped because you know they're not capable of parenting and the public is paying for it one way or another. It's not fair to anyone, kids included.

lee, I wonder if we did require tests to determine if a person is qualified to be a parent, just how many would actually fail. I'm guessing a lot more than most people think.

You know I saw the movie Starship Troopers, and they had them take a test or become a "citizen" in order to be allowed to procreate. I turned to my Mom and said... "You know that is a brilliant idea"

of course she goes "Who will give it, and who makes up the qualifications, and don't you think the test would be subject to the same stereo types and predjudices already out there"

    Damn it...

Hey donuteyes:  EVERY African Amaerican in theinner city gambles on who can make the most babymama drama.  Are you nutty or are you uneducated and stupid.  African american makes DO NOT HOLD THE TITLE FOR STUPID.  Whites, spanish, poor, rich, unhealthy, and even politicians make fools of themselves having baby after baby.  Remember Gov. Palin and the Bristol saga?  You either have been robbed or dumped by someone who fell for a black person, your child had a baby by a black person, or you are outraged that your own family is in trouble and you need someome to blame.  Get a grip.  Everyone seems to think having babies is a great thing.  It is only great if you can and will support them - that includes but is not limited to:  feeding, clothing, medical care, education, emotional care and a whole lot of love and understanding, along with tolerance and caring and devotion.  So anyone who is not ready for  this and more should leave fathering (or mothering) alone.  And for those of you who have nothing better to do than bash an entire group of people - please find something worthwhile to do with yourselves.  Get a real life.  I can only imagine what folks would have to say if I said "all americans are stupid just because they are all americans." Sounds pretty stupid to me.  Wake up americans.  Forget being stupid and focus on truly important issues.  S

Being an African American female, I resent the comment made by MTR87111. Who gives you the rigth to single out race, especially being that this loser is not black? Maybe you should stick to the topic at hand and forget about colour. It's ignorant ass*s like you that cause friction among people. Anyhow, I am a fan of Maury Povich and the table turns both ways. All races get multiple women pregnant and all races of women are "hos" so to speak. If these dumb b*tches know the 411 and still open their legs for these losers, they are just a stupid as he is. The woman is a fool. The man is a frigging moron. He definitely should have strongly considered a vasectomy before ever getting involved with someone else. What a weak suck!!! I really hope she makes a will to determine who would raise these children before giving birth, so in case she dies, he won't leave them with the hospital, too just walk away again. And what has changed in him in the last several months, that he or his new girlfriend believe, he wouldn't do the same to her and these babies in the future? Oh, I know, he really missed his family and being an upstanding husband and father. He promises to not repeat his past mistakes. What a crock of crap!!!

Good news site Darreth, It seems everyone agrees, now lets see if the dad (and I use that term loosely) will take the doctor up on his offer!

If he thought about a vasectomy and couldn't afford it, why didn't he think of a condom and use it? Thanks Dragonwomen for the seed, at least this seed won't create a baby!

I vote that he is only allowed virtual interaction with seeds and not real physical interactions!

Maybe his girlfriend will get tired of him and hopefully by then they have a safe haven drop off at insane asylums for people like him:)

Omaha Doctor offers free Vasectomy to Safe Haven dad Wednesday, July 1, 2009

It was last October that 37 year old Gary Staton dropped of 9 of his children at Creighton University Medical Center under the then-active Safe Haven Law. Staton stated that his wife had recently died at the time and he was having a very difficult time caring for the children by himself. The children ranged in age from one month to 16. An older child was legally an adult.

Staton is once again about to be a father. His girlfriend is pregnant with twins. Staton stated that he would be willing to receive a vasectomy but he could not afford one.

    Thank you for that posting.

Again sorry I lost track of this seed... most of the comments I share the sentiments. I can not help but feel pain for the 9, who will no doubt be split up from each other.

You know, DragonWoman, in all my frustration and disbelief regarding the dad's situation, I kind of put the poor kids out of my mind. They really will have a hard time of it. And now I wonder how they feel - those who are old enough to know what's going on, that is - to know he's got more children coming by a different woman. Will these unborn twins be kept by the father and his girlfriend? That would be devastating to the kids he gave up. I feel so bad for them.

How do Staton's kids feel about the news that he's going to be a daddy again? Joanne Manzer, wife of RebelJane's father, says Staton's abandoned kids (currently living with their aunt) do not hold a grudge. "He goes up there for visits -- they still have a connection," Manzer tells FOXNews.com. "They kind of understood what he did, he was stressed with everything else."

I am glad they have a home, and he visits... but I don't think they really understand. And what if something happens with this woman? He should have sought therapy... not another woman.

I don't like this guy, I want to kick his impotent fatherhood into a hemorrhoid but how would that help his children, an ef-up that keeps efing-up is a problem that will solve it's self. The production of children complicates every situation but this guy is a dead man with his cap on backwards, he should be under police protection, this is Nebraska, some crazy bastard will kill him. I really hate this guy but some one needs to protect him, put him in jail or something, we can work on that stupid look on his face by bringing the parade of people that want to kill him, past his prison bars just to let him know what a worthless piece of crap he is. I can't help it, if this guy makes me this angry, he needs to be protected. Is it wrong for me to fantasise about slapping that backward cap off his mindless looking head? I would never do that but I don't like this guy, I think he thinks being a father is about the act of impregnation but a penis only feels enough love to start the process, a father can't stand to see a child cry, a father hangs around to argue with his teenagers and a real father works with the mother even if they are divorced, just because real parents love their children. If the mother dies, the children need a father.

Blayde, the crazy bastard would not be the person trying to kill him, rather, the crazy bastard would be anyone trying to protect him.

Give me one sound pragmatic reason for wanting to protect him.

Bilbo, good point perhaps, I want him locked up to protect those of us that feel such outrage. If someone hurt him they would go to jail.
